Everything you need to know to win every argument every time can be found on the SRP Resources pages of our website.

Okay . . . so you’re fed up with mass shootings and police brutality and voter suppression and income inequality, among many other things.

What’re you gonna do about it?

I say, LEARN! That’s what I suggested in Part One of What Can I Do?. And now that you’ve done that — now that you’ve read the books I recommended — you know what else you can do? I’ll tell ya what you can do — LEARN MORE!

That’s right. You’re not yet done with your political education. You’re not yet ready for prime time. And prime time for us little guys — the poor in spirit, the dregs of humanity — means being graceful and factful enough to handle our crazy friends and relatives on Facebook and at family gatherings. That’s right, I said factful; which rhymes with tactful, but doesn’t mean the same thing.

Everything you need to know to win every argument every time can be found on the SRP Resources pages of our website. My favorite source for facts is the Pulitzer Prize winning website, PolitiFact. Their research is meticulous. They cite their sources. And their Truth-O-Meter symbols are just plain fun. They use one called “Pants On Fire”, for instance.

Check out the VoteSmart FIGHT BACK video.

We here at the SRP Radio Podcast fact-checked the greatest reality show of all time — the 2016 Presidential Election. And we did this monthly for an entire year. Check out the charts we put together. You may notice that some people consistently lie. Others, not so much.

Another great website for getting politically hip is Vote Smart, where you can learn everything there is to know about people running for office. This is your one-stop shop for the nitty-gritty on candidates, national and local.

Vote Smart gives everyone easy access to politicians’ voting records, biographical and contact info, issue positions, interest group ratings, public statements, and a behind-the-scenes look at their campaign finances.

Must-See Movies

Watch Oliver Stone’s 10-part series, Untold History Of the United States. It does what Howard Zinn’s People’s History does; but the Stone series covers just the 20th Century.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER Mosaic In the Thomas Jefferson Building Of the Library Of Congress

After watching this, you’ll realize that Donald Trump was right when he said we (as a country) are not so innocent. And I hate having to agree with Donald Trump.

Finally, I invite you to watch our three favorite feature documentaries:

An Inconvenient Truth

When Noah built his ark, his friends and neighbors ridiculed him, accusing him of creating a giant hoax. In the Oscar-winning An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore presents the facts about global warming; for those who have ears to hear.

The Corporation

If a corporation truly were a person, he would be deemed a menace to society. The Corporation is the movie that pulled me out of my white middle-class apathy and inspired me to become socially conscious and politically active.

Inside Job

The U.S. financial services industry is corrupt to the core. The same kind of predatory lending meltdown that the U.S. went through in 2008 also happened in Iceland several years earlier. They put their bank executives in prison. We gave ours bonuses. The Oscar-winning Inside Job (as well as the companion book) tells this heartbreaking and infuriating story in detail; narrated by Matt Damon.

Get Involved

After you’ve done your homework, you’ll be ready for action. In Part Three of What Can I Do?, I’ll show you how to get involved and make a difference.
