Now, let’s look at the physical actions you can take. And this part is gonna be short and sweet. Because once you’ve done the mental and verbal actions from Parts One and Two of Eradicate WORKPLACE BOREDOM Forever, the final (physical) actions are a piece o’ cake.

Physical

In the food and beverage industry, there’s always cleaning and organizing to be done. Take the initiative to clean and organize your work space. Don’t wait to be told to do it. If you’re insecure about doing this, run it by a senior staff member.

For instance, you can literally say, “Hey, I’m bored . . . so I was thinking of doing some cleaning. Can you show me where the cleaning supplies are?”

You may get a few dirty looks from ne’er-do-wells. But I promise you, if you remain humble and tenacious, you will come off smelling like a rose to the powers that be.

Practice your craft. No matter what your position is with the company, you can learn something advantageous to your workflow; and you can practice your interactions with people — customers AND co-workers.

For instance, if you’re a retail worker of any sort, get to know your products. Read the labels. Find out where they come from, who makes them. Google the manufacturer; find out what their mission statement is. Find out what your own company’s mission statement is. Learn everything you can about your physical environment.

Know Yourself and Your Environment

I promise, if you do these simple things, not only will you alleviate boredom forever, you’ll get more outta life in general. You’ll be a man or woman who knows exactly who you are and what you have to offer. And knowing these things is how you begin marketing yourself and making money over a long period of time.

In short, knowing yourself and your environment are the building blocks of a successful career doing anything you want. That is, anything you’re passionate about.
